The Washing of Regeneration And The Renewing

Luk 24:13 ASV - And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was threescore furlongs from Jerusalem.
    Emmaus = "warm baths"
 the village to which the two disciples were going when our Lord appeared to them on the way, on the day of resurrection. Lk. 24:13. Luke makes its distance from Jerusalem, sixty stadia, or 7.5 miles (12 km); and Josephus mentions "a village called Emmaus" at the same distance. The site of Emmaus remains yet to be identified.

Eph 5:26 ASV - that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word,
Eph 5:27 ASV - that he might present the church to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.   This verse can be parallel to         Rom 6:3 ASV - Or are ye ignorant that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:4 ASV - We were buried therefore with him through baptism unto death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:5 ASV - For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection;
Rom 6:6 ASV - knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away, that so we should no longer be in bondage to sin;
Rom 6:7 ASV - for he that hath died is justified from sin.

Tit 3:5 ASV - not by works done in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
The word of God is the absolute life for us all.

And the word washing Greek: loutron
Washing:
"a bath, a laver" (akin to louo, see above), is used metaphorically of the Word of God, as the instrument of spiritual cleansing, Eph 5:26; in Tts 3:5, of "the washing of regeneration" (see REGENERATION). In the Sept., Sgs 4:2; 6:6.

Greek: palingenesia

Regeneration:
"new birth" (palin, "again," genesis, "birth"), is used of "spiritual regeneration," Tts 3:5, involving the communication of a new life, the two operating powers to produce which are "the word of truth," Jam 1:18; 1Pe 1:23, and the Holy Spirit, Jhn 3:5, 6; the loutron, "the laver, the washing," is explained in Eph 5:26, "having cleansed it by the washing (loutron) of water with the word."

Greek: anakainosis

Renew, Renewing (Verb and Noun):
akin to A, No. 1, "a renewal," is used in Rom 12:2, "the renewing (of your mind)," i.e., the adjustment of the moral and spiritual vision and thinking to the mind of God, which is designed to have a transforming effect upon the life; in Tts 3:5, where "the renewing of the Holy Spirit" is not a fresh bestowment of the Spirit, but a revival of His power, developing the Christian life; this passage stresses the continual operation of the indwelling Spirit of God; the Romans passage stresses the willing response on the part of the believer.
 If we were born of the loins of Adam than we were born into sin , he was our fleshly father . So we all man kind is under the curse of Adam at birth .  I want to establish a fact here, the carnal man is in charge from our birth until we come to the place of true repentance.  The word in  Heb 12:14 ASV - Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man shall see the Lord:
The word sanctification  a) separation to God, 1Cr 1:30; 2Th 2:13; 1Pe 1:2;
(b) the resultant state, the conduct befitting those so separated, 1Th 4:3, 4, 7, and the four other places mentioned above. "Sanctification" is thus the state predetermined by God for believers, into which in grace He calls them, and in which they begin their Christian course and so pursue it. Hence they are called "saints" (hagioi).
See SANCTIFICATION.
Eph 5:27 ASV - that he might present the church to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish
Greek: spilos

Spot (Noun and Verb):
"a spot or stain," is used metaphorically

(a) of moral blemish, Eph 5:27;

(b) of lascivious and riotous persons, 2Pe 2:13.

Greek: rhutis

Wrinkle:
from an obsolete verb rhuo, signifying "to draw together," occurs in Eph 5:27, describing the flawlessness of the complete church, as the result of the love of Christ in giving Himself up for it, with the purpose of presenting it to Himself hereafter.   There is a verse that says , That we be not found naked at his coming ,      Mat 22:11 ASV - But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment:  That robe of righteous living
Mat 22:12 ASV - and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless.
Mat 22:13 ASV - Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.   Who was this man that made it into the wedding feast ,   the verse below tells the story. Its one thing to be born again in your spirit that is the calling of God on a mans life .  Called in the Greek
  1. called, invited (to a banquet)
    1. invited (by God in the proclamation of the Gospel) to obtain eternal salvation in the kingdom through Christ
    2. called to (the discharge of) some office
      1. divinely selected and appointed
Mat 22:14 ASV - For many are called, but few chosen.
To gain your life in the end will be your cross it is our election into the kingdom .   Putting to death the deeds of the flesh . 1Co 15:50 ASV - Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
Mat 19:28 ASV - And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Tit 3:5 ASV - not by works done in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

  Chosen    Greek: eklektos
Elect, Elected, Election:
      The source of their "election" is God's grace, not human will, Eph 1:4, 5; Rom 9:11; 11:5. They are given by God the Father to Christ as the fruit of His death, all being foreknown and foreseen by God, Jhn 17:6; Rom 8:29. While Christ's death was sufficient for all men, and is effective in the case of the "elect," yet men are treated as responsible, being capable of the will and power to choose. For the rendering "being chosen as firstfruits," an alternative reading in 2Th 2:13, see FIRSTFRUITS.

The spot here is willful sin , if we are wash in the blood of Christ  being dead to sin any longer.
How is it the carnal man still lives , Rom 6:12 ASV - Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey the lusts thereof:  If you are born again and wrapped in the robe of righteousness . Than sin is that spot on your garment ,  we have that advocate Jesus when we do sin we go to our brothers and confess that sin.
1Jo 1:8 ASV - If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jo 1:9 ASV - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  Confessing our sins cleanses us from all unrighteousness
1Jo 1:10 ASV - If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
The confessed sin is that spot on our garment and withholding our sin or hiding that sin is the wrinkle we separate our self's from Gods people from shame or what ever cause.  But the Lord sees all and knows all,  your brothers may not know but God knows all things about us. So we with draw separate from believers or we try to hide our sin .  Luk 8:17 ASV - For nothing is hid, that shall not be made manifest; nor anything secret, that shall not be known and come to light.

Luk 24:14 ASV - And they communed with each other of all these things which had happened.
Luk 24:15 ASV - And it came to pass, while they communed and questioned together, that Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
Luk 24:16 ASV - But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
Luk 24:21 ASV - But we hoped that it was he who should redeem Israel. Yea and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things came to pass.
Luk 24:27 ASV - And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Luk 24:30 ASV - And it came to pass, when he had sat down with them to meat, he took the bread and blessed; and breaking it he gave to them.
Luk 24:31 ASV - And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
These verses are key to a point I want to bring.    Rev 3:18 ASV - I counsel thee to buy of me gold refined by fire, that thou mayest become rich; and white garments, that thou mayest clothe thyself, and that the shame of thy nakedness be not made manifest; and eyesalve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see.

Luk 8:8 ASV - And other fell into the good ground, and grew, and brought forth fruit a hundredfold. As he said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Luk 24:16 ASV - But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.

EYES    Greek: ophthalmos            metaph. the eyes of the mind, the faculty of knowing

HOLDEN Greek: krateo

Hold (Down, Fast, Forth, On, To, Up), Held, Holden, (Take) Hold:
"to be strong, mighty, to prevail,"

(1) is most frequently rendered "to lay or take hold on"

(a) literally, e.g., Mat 12:11; 14:3; 18:28; 21:46, RV (AV, "laid hands on"); Mat 22:6, RV (AV, "took"); Mat 26:55, AV (RV, "took"); RV, "took hold of" (AV, "held by"); Mar 3:21; 6:17; 12:12; 14:51; Act 24:6, RV (AV, "took"); Rev 20:2;

(b) metaphorically, of "laying hold of the hope of the Lord's return," Hbr 6:18;

(2) also signifies "to hold" or "hold fast," i.e., firmly,

(a), literally, Mat 26:48, AV (RV, "take"); Act 3:11; Rev 2:1;

(b) metaphorically, of "holding fast a tradition or teaching," in an evil sense, Mar 7:3, 4, 8; Rev 2:14, 15; in a good sense, 2Th 2:15; Rev 2:25; 3:11; of "holding" Christ, i.e., practically apprehending Him, as the head of His church, Col 2:19; a confession, Hbr 4:14; the name of Christ, i.e., abiding by all that His name implies, Rev 2:13; of restraint, Luk 24:16, "(their eyes) were holden;" of the winds, Rev 7:1; of the impossibility of Christ's being "holden" of death, Act 2:24.

2Pe 1:4 KJV - Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2Pe 1:5 KJV - And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
2Pe 1:6 KJV - And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
2Pe 1:7 KJV - And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
2Pe 1:8 KJV - For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2Pe 1:9 KJV - But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
2Pe 1:10 KJV - Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

So we see here that people are blind to the spiritual things because of will full rebellion or just ignorance .  The men on the road to Emmaus were looking for a flesh man as their savior , they said we were all hoping he would restore Israel . But we hoped that it was he who should redeem Israel  ( back to its old glory) .  The old testament speaks of Jesus and him being from the tribe of Judah .  Jer 33:17 ASV - For thus saith Jehovah: David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel;
Luk 1:32 ASV - He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
Jesus came to restore the kingdom of God ,  he came to restore a spiritual kingdom .
Luk 17:20 ASV - And being asked by the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God cometh, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Luk 17:21 ASV - neither shall they say, Lo, here! or, There! for lo, the kingdom of God is within you.

 2Co 5:14 ASV - For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that one died for all, therefore all died;
2Co 5:15 ASV - and he died for all, that they that live should no longer live unto themselves, but unto him who for their sakes died and rose again.
2Co 5:16 ASV - Wherefore we henceforth know no man after the flesh: even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know him so no more.
2Co 5:17 ASV - Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new.
2Co 5:18 ASV - But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and gave unto us the ministry of reconciliation;
2Co 5:19 ASV - to wit, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not reckoning unto them their trespasses, and having committed unto us the word of reconciliation

 These men's eyes were holden out of their fathers traditions and being from the flesh of Adam , We are born and live in this world subjected to our carnal nature . Until we are born again we cannot see the spiritual kingdom the truths that God desires to revel to his children .  Jhn 16:12 ASV - I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.  The Jews that believed he was the messiah saw him in his flesh , they desired to make him King in his flesh over Israel . Jesus came to save the whole world for the salvation of the complete world , John 3:16 .   Jesus said neither shall they say, Lo, here! or, There! for lo, the kingdom of God is within you.
Rev 3:21 ASV - He that overcometh, I will give to him to sit down with me in my throne, as I also overcame, and sat down with my Father in his throne.    Paul said  Rom 11:25 ASV - For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant of this mystery, lest ye be wise in your own conceits, that a hardening in part hath befallen Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in;
Rom 11:26 ASV - and so all Israel shall be saved: even as it is written, There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer; He shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
Rom 11:27 ASV - And this is my covenant unto them, When I shall take away their sins.
Rom 2:28 ASV - For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh:
Rom 2:29 ASV - but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
Jhn 8:31 ASV - Jesus therefore said to those Jews that had believed him, If ye abide in my word, then are ye truly my disciples;
Jhn 1:12 ASV - But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Jhn 1:13 ASV - who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Jhn 1:14 ASV - And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.

1Co 2:14 ASV - Now the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged.

Luk 24:30 ASV - And it came to pass, when he had sat down with them to meat, he took the bread and blessed; and breaking it he gave to them.
Luk 24:31 ASV - And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

Bread  Greek: artos
metaphorically, "of Christ as the Bread of God, and of Life," Jhn 6:33, 35;

Jhn 6:33 ASV - For the bread of God is that which cometh down out of heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
Jhn 6:51 ASV - I am the living bread which came down out of heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: yea and the bread which I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world.
We must see Jesus in his sacrifice his being broken for us ,   and his cross is our cross we to must be broken in our flesh on our spiritual cross .   Taking up his nature and his character
and bearing his fruit of life.      1Co 11:24 ASV - and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, This is my body, which is for you: this do in remembrance of me.   Jesus said we must lose our life in the earth

Mat 16:24 ASV - Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Mat 16:25 ASV - For whosoever would save his life shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it.
