As I read in 1 Peter 2 :24 and come to the word Stripes , I am reminded of Luke 4 :18 Jesus was fulfilling the prophecy of himself as to his going to his cross. The only way these wonderful prophecy's could be fulfilled is by his
crucifixion and death on the cross . Isaiah 61 and Luke 4:18 .
1Pe 2:21 ASV - For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps:
1Pe 2:22 ASV - who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
1Pe 2:23 ASV - who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
1Pe 2:24 ASV - who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed. Stripes
Greek: molops Stripe:
"a bruise, a wound from a stripe," is used in 1Pe 2:24 (from the Sept. of Isa 53:5), lit., in the original, "by whose bruise," not referring to Christ's scourging, but figurative of the stroke of Divine judgment administered vicariously to Him on the Cross (a comforting reminder to these Christian servants, who were not infrequently buffeted, ver. 20, by their masters).
The Lord reminds me daily of the great and vast amount of people on this earth that suffer this Bruising , a terrible spiritual affliction that affects the very heart of the many souls that suffers this . A situation that can only be healed by the blood of Jesus . Jesus said a body thou hast made for me
Heb 10:4 ASV - For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.
Heb 10:5 ASV - Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, But a body didst thou prepare for me;
Heb 10:6 ASV - In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hadst no pleasure:
Luk 4:17 ASV - And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And he opened the book, and found the place where it was written, Jesus in his deity suffered the shame of the cross and only Jesus could take away the sin of the world once and for all . Luk 4:18 ASV - The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised, Bruised Greek: thrauo Bruise:
"to smite through, shatter," is used in Luk 4:18, "them that are bruised," i.e., broken by calamity.
Luk 4:19 ASV - To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luk 4:20 ASV - And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him.
Luk 4:21 ASV - And he began to say unto them, To-day hath this scripture been fulfilled in your ears.
Today the scripture became life ever lasting , and he said to all that hear this word having ears to hear it will become life to them . Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God . For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. Romans 12 : 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service. And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
I am remembering a verse where a mother came to Jesus with her two sons and ask that they be seated with Christ in his throne in Gods kingdom . Matt 20-28 this blog is about our cross we are to bear. Jesus said we will not be worthy of him if we do not pick up our cross and follow him . Where is Jesus going that we must follow Jhn 14:4 ASV - And whither I go, ye know the way.Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; how know we the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me. We have our own cross to bear , putting to death the deeds of the flesh . Becoming a living sacrifice unto God Rom 12 - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service. Jesus said I am the door; by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and go out, and shall find pasture. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me. 1Jo 2:5 ASV - but whoso keepeth his word, in him verily hath the love of God been perfected. Hereby we know that we are in him: he that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as he walked.
1Co 15:50 ASV - Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Jhn 3:6 ASV - That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Rom 8:3 ASV - For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: Jesus is the example we are to follow he went to his cross and his flesh man became a sacrifice once and for all for the sins of the world . It says he God sent Jesus his only son to this earth in a body like yours and mine to take away our sins in this body of flesh. We are all born of Adam and his nature into this body of flesh. He was the first Adam and Jesus became the second Adam , so the word reconciliation come into view here. To be reconciled to some one or something means to have had or now have a relationship with some one or something in the past . Adam failed God being disobedient to his commandments . Adam and Eve was cast out of the garden and God put a curse on him and his offspring from that time foward. Every man born on this earth is born after the loins of Adam we are born of his flesh and of his nature .
Colo 2 :1-15 And you, being dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, you, I say, did he make alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses; having blotted out the bond written in ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us: and he hath taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross; having despoiled the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Isa 53:8 ASV - By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who among them considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due?
Isa 53:9 ASV - And they made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Isa 53:10 ASV - Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand.
Hebrew Daka Bruise to crush, be crushed, be contrite, be broken As I was praying about the understanding to this word and the revelation of its meaning . I saw in the spirit a person holding a Chrystal vase and as I watched they held out the vase and let it drop it was in slow motion as it it the floor and it exploded into a thousand pieces it went all over the floor . And I heard a voice in my mind say man cannot put this back together again but God in his mercy can , he can restore this broken vessel completely. The vase was the soul of a bruised , crushed person . The world today has so many bruised souls searching for the restoration of their hearts to be truly healed and have that peace that passes all understanding . Jhn 14:27 ASV - Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. People of every age and walk of life suffer from this crushed spirit. Its called Rejection and this rejection is from satan and it is meant to destroy as many souls as he can before they come to Christ the restorer of your souls by way of his atoning blood .
Jesus is the only remedy for this debilitating spirit , he suffered this to bring freedom to all peoples in this world.
2Co 5:18 ASV - But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and gave unto us the ministry of reconciliation;
2Co 5:19 ASV - to wit, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not reckoning unto them their trespasses, and having committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
Isa 53:11 ASV - He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities.
Isa 53:12 ASV - Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
- Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand . Every one born of God and knoweth God is that seed , the fruit of Christ the son of God the word made flesh . Remember Jesus was the sower of the seed of his father he was anointed to bring the good news of his father . Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son for the sins of the world , Jesus paid your ransom he was sold for thirty pieces of silver . Silver is a type and shadow that signifies the atoning blood of the Lamb . Lev 17:11 ASV - For the life of the flesh is in the blood; and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh atonement by reason of the life. The number 30 in bible numerics is the Blood of Christ upon the altar . For it is the blood that maketh atonement by reason of the life.
So by his bruising and being crushed taking the stripes that were meant for us , Jesus just before he was betrayed in the garden Mat 26:39 ASV - And he went forward a little, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.
The Cup is referring to the Agony he suffered The cup of Agony:
ag'-o-ni (agonia; Vulgate agonia): A word occurring only once in the New Testament (Lu 22:44), and used to describe the climax of the mysterious soul-conflict and unspeakable suffering of our Lord in the garden at Gethsemane. The term is derived from the Greek agon "contest" and this in turn from the Greek ago "to drive or lead," as in a chariot race. Its root idea is the struggle and pain of the severest athletic contest or conflict. Luk 22:42 ASV - saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared unto him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became as it were great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.
1. Physical:
The agony of His soul wrought its pain on His body, until "his sweat became as it were great drops of blood falling down upon the ground" (Lu 22:44, omitted by some ancient authorities). He offered His prayers and supplications "with strong crying and tears" (#He 5:7). The intensity of His struggle so distressed and weakened Him that Luke says "there appeared unto him an angel from heaven, strengthening him." The threefold record of the evangelists conveys the idea of the intensest physical pain. As the wire carries the electric current, so every nerve in Jesus' physical being felt the anguish of His sensitive soul as He took upon Himself the burden of the world's sin and moral evil.
2. Mental:
The crisis of Jesus' career as Messiah and Redeemer came in Gethsemane. The moral issue of His atoning work was intelligently and voluntarily met here. The Gospels exhaust language in attempting to portray the stress and struggle of this conflict. "My soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death." "Being in an agony he prayed more earnestly, saying, Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me." The mental clearness of Christ's vision of humanity's moral guilt and the energy of will necessary to meet the issue and take "this cup" of being the world's sin- bearer, indicate the awful sorrow and anguish of His supernatural conflict. It is divinely significant that the word "agony" appears but once in all Scripture. This solitary word records a solitary experience. Only One ever compassed the whole range of the world's sorrow and pain, anguish and agony. The shame of criminal arrest in the garden and of subsequent condemnation and death as a malefactor had to His innocent soul the horror of humanity's entire and ageless guilt. The mental and moral anguish of Jesus in Gethsemane interprets the meaning of Paul's description of the atonement, "Him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf" (2Co 5:21).
3. Spiritual:
The agony of Jesus was supremely within the realm of His spirit. The effect of sin in separating the human soul from God was fathomed by the suffering Saviour in the fathomless mystery of His supernatural sorrow. Undoubtedly the anguish of Gethsemane surpassed the physical torture of Calvary. The whole conflict was wrought out here. Jesus' filial spirit, under the burden of the world's guilt, felt isolated from the Father. This awful, momentary seclusion from His Father's face constituted the "cup" which He prayed might pass from Him, and the "agony" of soul, experienced again on the cross, when He felt that God had forsaken Him.
Rom 8:3 ASV - For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
2Ti 3:1 ASV - But know this, that in the last days grievous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good, traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof: from these also turn away.
The last days are upon us and we must see that time is short as to our believing and living this word of God . 1Jo 2:15 ASV - Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vainglory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. Little children, it is the last hour: and as ye heard that antichrist cometh, even now have there arisen many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last hour.
You must be born again my friend born of the water and of the spirit , just as Jesus spoke to his disciples in Mark 16-15-20 To be filled with the holy spirit as in the book of Acts 2-38 it is just as real today as in that day . With out repentance no man shall see God to turn from your sins and walk towards the cross of Christ . Jesus said that he prayed to his father that he would give the promise of his spirit to all that believed a helper a comforter . This word says it is real and for today the world says it is not . Who do you believe Christ or this lost world.
Luk 24:49 ASV - And behold, I send forth the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city, until ye be clothed with power from on high. Luk 24:49 KJV - And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. Endued Greek: enduo
Clothe: (Eng., "endue"), signifies "to enter into, get into," as into clothes, "to put on," e.g., Mar 1:6; Luk 8:27 (in the best mss.); 24:49 (AV, "endued"); 2Cr 5:3; Rev 1:13; 19:14. to put on oneself, be clothed with," is used metaphorically of power, Luk 24:49, RV, "clothed.
Act 14:21 ASV - And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch,
Act 14:22 ASV - confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.
Greek: thlipsis Tribulations Afflict (-ed), Affliction:
primarily means "a pressing, pressure" (see A, No. 4), anything which burdens the spirit. In two passages in Paul's Epistles it is used of future retribution, in the way of "affliction," Rom 2:9; 2Th 1:6. In Mat 24:9, the AV renders it as a verb, "to be afflicted," (RV, "unto tribulation"). It is coupled with stenochoria, "anguish," in Rom 2:9; 8:35; with ananke, "distress," 1Th 3:7; with diogmos, "persecution," Mat 13:21; Mar 4:17; 2Th 1:4. It is used of the calamities of war, Mat 24:21, 29; Mar 13:19, 24; of want, 2Cr 8:13, lit., "distress for you;" Phl 4:14 (cp. Phl 1:16); Jam 1:27; of the distress of woman in child-birth, Jhn 16:21; of persecution, Act 11:19; 14:22; 20:23; 1Th 3:3, 7; Hbr 10:33; Rev 2:10; 7:14; of the "afflictions" of Christ, from which (His vicarious sufferings apart) his followers must not shrink, whether sufferings of body or mind, Col 1:24; of sufferings in general, 1Cr 7:28; 1Th 1:6, etc.
Mat 26:39 ASV - And he went forward a little, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.
Greek: poterion Cup: figurative, of one's lot or experience, joyous or sorrowful (frequent in the Psalms; cp. Psa 116:18, "cup of salvation"); in the NT it is used most frequently of the sufferings of Christ, Mat 20:22, 23; 26:39; Mar 10:38, 39; 14:36; Luk 22:42; Jhn 18:11

Mat 20:22 ASV - But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I am about to drink? They say unto him, We are able.
Mat 20:23 ASV - He saith unto them, My cup indeed ye shall drink: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left hand, is not mine to give; but it is for them for whom it hath been prepared of my Father.
1Co 5:7 KJV - Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
My cup indeed ye shall drink: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left hand, is not mine to give; but it is for them for whom it hath been prepared of my Father. We have a spiritual cross to bear my friend . Jesus accomplish the physcial now we accomplish the spiritual ! It is Christ in you the hope of glory seeing Jesus in that mirror not our flesh .
Rev 19:6 ASV - And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunders, saying, Hallelujah: for the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigneth.
Rev 19:7 ASV - Let us rejoice and be exceeding glad, and let us give the glory unto him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
Rev 19:8 ASV - And it was given unto her that she should array herself in fine linen, bright and pure: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
Mat 22:11 ASV - But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment:
Mat 22:12 ASV - and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless.
Mat 22:13 ASV - Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
